The Olympics has never been rescheduled in peace time expect in war time such as 1916,1940 and 1944 because of the world wars. Mr Abe said IOC president Thomas Bach agreed "100% to postponing the games for a year.
Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike, who was part of the talks, said the games would not be cancelled, just postponed, and they would still be called "Tokyo 2020"
"We agreed that a postponement would be the best way to ensure that the athletes are in peak condition when they compete and to guarantee the safety of the spectators,” Abe told reporters shortly after his conversation with Bach, adding that the Games would be held by the summer of 2021.
“must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athlete olympic games and the international community”
